It is without secret that for most of football’s history the defenders of Italian decent have been believed to have a unique talent when it comes to laying their body down in a bid to stop the round leather from crossing their goal line.

The very word defenders and names like Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini have become almost synonymous with each other.

However, once in a while other capable hands from relatively unknown leagues or even nations serve to remind the rest of us that talent is never bounded by national boundaries or continents. You get to hear of Nemanja Vidic of Serbia, Daniel Agger of Denmark and Samuel Kuffour of Ghana.

Manchester United were able to get a player of such a mould in the person of Eric Bailly who operated as a quiet surgical sweeper at La Liga side Villarreal before being scooped onto stardom at Jose Mourinho’s orders.

As the transfer window looms and the Red Devils get ready to splash more cash into any available talent pool, one piece of business they have considered as a priority – given how swiftly they conducted it – was signing a center back capable of forging reliable pairing with the only one they currently have – Bailly. Lazio is interested in signing Manchester City’s EnesUnal

EnesUnal is a 19 year old Turkish attacker who is currently performing for FC Twente on a loan deal which extends until the end of the season.

So far, it has been a hugely impressive season for Unal as he has scored 18 goals in 31 appearances and has attracted the attention of major clubs including: Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Lazio FC.

A source at the Etihad Stadium was quoted as saying: “He’s scoring every week in Holland. Lazio have sent scouts to watch him and talks are set to begin over the coming weeks.City is in no rush to decide where he is going.Pep is willing to take him on the summer tour of the United States before making his mind up.”

There is an issue which might facilitate the potential transfer of EnesUnal to any of the interested clubs and it’s the fact that the youngster does not have a work permit and without this, he will not be able to perform with his parent club Manchester City in the upcoming season.

In order for EnesUnal to qualify for a work permit, he must have competed in 30-70% of his international matches over the previous 2 years and the 19 year old player has only been featured in 5 international matches since March of 2015. Italy defeated Albania 2-0 despite the disturbances from the fans of the visitors.

Albanian fans repeatedly disturbed the game, throwing flares and smoke bombs onto the pitch during the clash.

The coach of the visiting side Gianni de Biasi said he was “upset” with the fireworks during the games. He added that he “never thought” he would see such from the fans.

The fans started with the flares when the referee SlavkoVincic awarded a penalty in favour of the hosts. As Daniele de Rossi was about to take the kick, the flares came on. After the break, the game had to be paused for eight minutes and the players asked to leave the pitch.

The fans were threatened with warning that their team could get sanctioned if the disturbances continued. The warnings did little to stop the fans as the flares use continued.

One of the stewards was scared when fans threw flares onto him. He was assessed and declared fine but the skipper of the Albanian team AnsiAgolli had to appeal to the fans before play could resume. Continue reading ITALY TROUNCE ALBANIA 2-0 AMID FAN TROUBLE

AC Milan is preparing to sign Keita Balde Diao, Lazio talented midfielder with Keita also having expressed his intention to leave the club.

As the January transfer window opens next year, AC Milan’s coach, Vincenzo Montella, hopes to make some new additions to his squad, especially in the positions of a centre midfielder and a winger.

He has also expressed readiness to part with Carlos Bacca, in order to make sure the signing of Keita is successful.

There is a sort of strained relationship with Keita and Lazio, and during the club’s Christmas dinner recently, he had walked out at the time president Claude Lotito was getting ready to deliver his speech.

For Keita who would feature in January’s African Cup of Nations, he has been hoping for a significant increase in his pay, but it seems like Lazio will not be willing to offer him anything more than €1.5 million a season. Continue reading KEITA READY TO LEAVE LAZIO, MILAN PREPARES OFFER

Inzaghi Happy with the Opening Day Victory against Atalanta

Lazio managed to open the 2016-17 season in the best possible way after getting a victory against Atalanta.

There was a lot of pressure on the team to start the season well after having just experienced one of the poor campaigns in recent memory. Just when it seemed that the team was on the verge of regularly qualifying for the Champions League, they slipped back into the lower levels of the Italian Serie A table. Hopes of reviving the team has been placed upon Inzaghi and the manager did not disappoint after grabbing this rollercoaster victory.

A 4-3 win on opening day does not give out a lot of positive vibes about the defence, but it was important three points for the team to begin with. It also gives them a lot of confidence going into the next game against champions Juventus. Inzaghi would have preferred to wait for a game against the champions, but this would be a great time to play against Massimiliano Allegri’s team since they are just recovering from the loss of midfielder Paul Pogba to Manchester United. Inzaghi claimed that his team was made to suffer in the win against Atalanta since the opposition were extremely good as well. Immobile was the start of the show with a first-half brace.

Lazio might make a bid for Chelsea player in the summer

There are media reports that Italian club Lazio might make a bid for Chelsea defender Baba Rahman.

The latter joined the London club last season but has failed to make an impact on the team. Lazio, who are looking to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season, are prepared to offer up to £13million in order to sign the players.

Chelsea signed Baba Rahman from German club Augsburg last summer, but the player has failed to establish himself in the team. He has managed only 23 appearances for the Blues so far, and most of those have been as a substitute. Although the £13million will come short of the £21million Chelsea paid for him last summer, they will be delighted to recoup at least part of the money on a player that has failed to adapt to the Premier League.

Indeed, Baba Rahman had found it hard to dislodge Cesar Azpilicueta from the first-team and even when the latter was absent, the Chelsea manager has chosen Kenedy ahead of him. The player will also feel that he is damaging his career by remaining in England, and he will be better off trying his luck somewhere else.
